Questions German sales panels actually ask

A look at the commercial prompts Mittelstand and enterprise hiring managers use — and how candidates often answer the wrong layer.

German sales interviews rarely stay at “tell me about yourself.” Panels move quickly into how you run a territory, how you forecast, and how you behave when a deal slips.

Activity versus outcome

A frequent trap: answering “How do you manage your pipeline?” with CRM hygiene. Hiring managers usually want to hear how you prioritise accounts, when you escalate, and what you do when a forecast number is at risk.

Prompts worth rehearsing aloud

  • Walk us through a deal you lost and what you changed afterward.
  • How do you decide which accounts get weekly attention?
  • Describe a time procurement and the economic buyer disagreed.
  • What does a realistic first-quarter plan look like in this territory?

Language mix

Many German employers run commercial questions in English and open with German small talk. Practise switching without losing structure — especially numbers and customer names you are allowed to share.

If you are preparing for a live process, the sales interview intensive builds mocks around the actual job ad rather than a generic list.
